Leaving a great first impression is very important in the dating game as it determines whether there will be a second meeting.

You’ve done it! That cute co-worker you’ve had a crush on has finally flirted back, that girl from the bar actually gave her the correct number, or that guy from your online dating service turned out to be sweet. You’re finally about to go on a first date.

Few tips to make an impression which sets the groove and leaves the other person in AWE.

Pick an interesting restaurant and activity

Think beyond the conventional restaurants & the standard dinner and a movie date. You don’t need to go to one of the best restaurants in town but you’ll want to pick a place with character and an interesting menu (but one that is still accessible for every palate).” Consider taking your date to an activity that will foster conversation and allow you to have active interactions like music nights, drive-in movies, and sports events.

Dress well

You have to dress to impress, your appearance is key according to conventional wisdom. The very first impression is made within seven seconds, so That doesn’t mean you need to be in a three-piece suit or a ball gown but dress slightly better than you would for an average date.

Arrive early or on time

If your dinner reservation is at 8 p.m., be sure you’re at the restaurant at 7:45 p.m. Nothing is more of an immediate turnoff than tardiness. Always try to be early and the least you can do is be on time.

Remember your table manners

It’s easy to be rude without realizing it. And it’s really important that you remember your table etiquette. That means you should put your napkin on your lap, keep your elbows off the table, don’t talk with your utensils in hand, and pass the salt and pepper together. Table etiquette shows what you are

Be confident and positive

Being confident and positive is a vibe, A vibe which can be felt and seen by your date. A part of making an instantly great first impression is in your stature, in your walk and how you carry yourself. Walk into the venue for your date with confidence, with a straight posture and a smile on your face. Don’t be cocky but be confident enough, your date will definitely pick up on those vibes.

Move beyond small talk

If you want to mark an unforgettable impression you need to come up with interesting and creative topics which will keep you in a conversation. A person can only discuss the weather, siblings, and what’s on TV so much before it gets boring but if you are working to make a perfect first impression you will have interesting tidbits and anecdotes in your pocket to make for engaging, interesting discussions that truly allow you to get to know your date.

Try to know the person

You’re going to want to ask your date questions about themselves and listen to what they have to say. Remember to follow up on their questions and show interest in what they have to say. But don’t bombard them with questions and bullet points. No one likes that and is considered rude just keep it light and have a good time.

Make eye contact and use your date’s name

You want to really connect with your date, and there are two simple ways to do that: eye contact and name use. Making eye contact not only shows you’re attentive and engaged, but it also helps you to connect with your date and it’s scientifically proven that people like the sound of their own name, so be sure to use it with some frequency and at a slower pace, just don’t make it weird.

Be respectful towards the staff

You can’t just be kind, compassionate and respectful to your date. you need to be nice to everyone around you, including the waiters and bartenders. If you’re rude to the man or woman serving you dinner, how does your date know you won’t be rude in other social scenarios?

Keep your phone away

We love Twitter, Messages, Instagram, and Snapchat as much as the next person, but you’re out engaging with a real person. Be present and attentive at your date to show you are listening to them. keep your cell phone tucked away in your pocket or purse. Using your phone often on your first date might give out an impression that you’re not interested or unattentive.

Pay for the dinner

As a man, the custom demands you to take care of the check. Few women think men should automatically pay for the first date. Others think that whoever initiated the date should pay and some believe that dates should be split 50/50. All of these are the right and wrong answers but if you are a man looking to make a great impression, be a gentleman and reach for the check. An independent strong woman will insist on paying her half but you can decline with a simple sentence “you can get the check next time we are out”

A word of advice from Dating Scopes

Be more attentive toward small details like following up on their questions, dressing well, indulging in conversations and especially enjoying the evening together. The most important tip to follow is not to overthink things. Go with the flow of the evening and treat your date like an actual human, not some otherworldly divine being. Be confident, engage in the conversation, and be kind. Just do these things so you might get the second date that you are now looking forward to.
